« There’s no point in trying to fit everyone. Each one of us is different. When you free yourself from dictates, you stand out in the most elegant way. » Elliot Gant
GANT – THE HISTORY OF THE BRAND
The GANT store opened on The Village Outlet and celebrates 70 years of innovation, inspiration and learning. From button-down shirts to polo shirts to twisted sweaters, seven decades have shaped American sportswear that you’ll find at outlet prices in our Village of Brands.
GANT it is a story that began with shirts in 1949, in the company launched by Bernard Gantmacher in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. This son of a Ukrainian miller, pursued his dream of a better life westward and at the age of 17 embarked on the SS Potsdam to New York. He divides his time between evening classes at Columbia University’s School of Pharmacy and a tough day job in the vibrant fashion district of the Lower East Side. During these years he also met Rebecca Rose, his future wife. Upon returning from his military service during World War I, he graduated, married Rebecca and founded the Par-Ex Shirt Company with his partner Morris Shapiro. This company, which manufactured shirts for other brands, was a success and moved to New Haven where the couple enjoyed a prosperous period. GANT Inc. was later founded in April 1949.
GANT & THE VILLAGE
It is with pleasure that we welcome this new GANT shop which puts at the heart of its values the quality of work and finishes that make its shirts references in fashion and sportswear trends.
Seventy years after the creation of the brand, GANT is rediscovered on The Village outlet, which will add colour to your wardrobe at outlet prices and make you own the brand’s flagship piece: the button-down shirt.
